Geek Speak – Geek Eats: Wine Caucus Fridays at Troppo
by Daniel
A few places in downtown Lansing offer some great deals on Friday, in hopes of keeping the 9-to-5′ers around a bit longer. Wine Caucus Fridays at Troppo is one of those deals.
Starting at 4PM on Friday, you can get drink specials, food specials, and are treated to live jazz music. This applies to the bar/lounge area only (not the patio). So, what are the deals? You get half off select bottles of wine (hence the Wine Caucus name), and there are $4 Troppo-tini’s, which is pictured above. I had the orange kind (duh), as I’m always eager to try out a new mixed drink (as referenced in a previous podcast, the girlfriend gives me a hard time whenever I order a Manhattan).
FYI, it comes with a lot of ice, which can make enjoying the beverage a bit of a logistical challenge. If you are into fruity martinis, give it a go. It is difficult to scoff at the $4 price tag, as I imagine a drink such as this normally goes for twice the price.
But–the girlfriend ordered a bottle of wine, a pinot noir, which we split. And we took part in the other deal–two appetizers for $10.
Now, this was a great deal.
Normally, the appetizers range around $9 and more. Getting two for $10 was a bargain. We had the calamari, and a “white” pizza. Both were very tasty. Troppo has great food (albeit pricey, but worth the cost). I have never been disappointed with the food at Troppo.
Do you know of any other Friday deals around Lansing?

Still annoyed with the ‘not the patio’ policy.
You’ll live.
